Could be wrong, but don't see how you can jump from the PCI to USB buss. Provided you have an open PCI slot, one of the USR PCI Hardware modems (3CP2976, 3CP2977, 3CP5610(suffix: _ , A, & B) work great as a serial Com5 device, and is recognized and set-up by all Linux distro's I've used. I use the 5610A @ $32~$35 delivered.
