If your Gateway machine has a PCI slot and you plug in a USR 5610B, it 
will then have a serial port, most probably /dev/ttyS4.

If you plug a USP 5610B into a PCI slot, you would just run it without all 
this other complexity, unless I misunderstand something. I run a 5610B in 
two machines, one RHEL 3 ES and one RHL 9.
