Run route.
 
You should have ppp0 as a default route. I think that you have ppp connection up, but traffic is not routed to it.
Also, do you know if you have passed the authentication on ppp conenction? Look through the log to see the connection stages pppd goes through.

I am trying to get an internet connection using just pppd, and I have been successfully able to communicate with the modem.  When I run the pppd process ( pppd call script-name), it interacts with the modem and I obtain a ppp0 address (I verified this when I run the ifconfig command to see the network interfaces).  However, when I run a browser or try to telnet to the internet I can't get out.  Does anyone know how to get out just using the pppd command?  I have seen references to wvdial, kppp and other dial-up programs, do these programs do something additional that is not standard with ppp?
