Subject: PPP Tunnel
I am trying to set up a PPP Tunnel with SSH (for a simple VPN) .. except it
has not been simple
I was folllowing the instructions in "Building Linux Virtual Private
Networks" by Oleg K and also the instructions on
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/ppp-ssh/index.html
I am stuck on the ppp part. When I run the command
"sudo /usr/sbin/pppd noauth" nothting happens. (you are supposed to get a
bunch of mubo jumble on the screen)
I tried running just "/usr/sbin/pppd noauth" as root and had the same result
...
I checked the messages file and saw the following error.
pppd 2.4.2 started by root, uid0
Using interface ppp0
Conect: ppp0 <--> /dev/tty2
LCP: timeout sending Config-Requests
Connection teminated
Exit
I do not have a ppp0 adaptor when I run ifconfig and I am not sure if that
is part of the problem ... If anyone has any sugestions, it would be greatly
appriciated. I am running Fedora Core2. I also tied on RH9 and received the
same result.
Thanks
Peter
