Here is briefly what I did for a fedora core 4.
May be you can adapt for RHEL 3.

- install pptp (see http://poptop.sourceforge.net/dox/redhat-howto.phtml =
and
http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-fedora-core-4.phtml)
# yum install kernel-smp-devel-2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 (already done)
# yum install dkms
# wget
http://mesh.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/poptop/kernel_ppp_mppe-0.0.5-2=
dkm
s.noarch.rpm
# rpm -ivh kernel_ppp_mppe-0.0.5-2dkms.noarch.rpm (then modprobe
ppp-compress-18 is OK)
# wget
http://switch.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/poptop/ppp-2.4.3-5.fc4.i386.=
rpm
# rpm -Uvh  ppp-2.4.3-5.fc4.i386.rpm
# wget
http://puzzle.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/poptop/pptpd-1.2.3-1.i386.rp=
m
# rpm -ivh pptpd-1.2.3-1.i386.rpm

configure iptables to allow pptp
configure /etc/pptpd.conf, /etc/ppp/options.pptpd, /etc/ppp/chap-secrets
