The best in the server area is FreeBSD. Core of this system has been used even by Juniper Networks as the OS behind their Internet Backbone Routers. It is highly stable but as it is always been said it is a different frame of mind and philosophy. There is also NetBSD as the OS that keeps the lead in porting and code quality. Very clean code, very structured, easily portable to new machines. The ideal BSD for embedded applications. The last big one of the kind is OpenBSD. It is the ideal OS for firewalls, VPN gateways and routing in the PC platform. They all require different tools to be managed and are more true to original Unix from the good old days of academic Internet than the new toy of the people, Linux.
