Sendmail questions - regarding MailScanner

I am in the planning process to configure an e-mail gateway using MailScanner. http://www.sng.ecs.soton.ac.uk/mailscanner/
My concern is that they recommend Sendmail for the SMTP relay.  They say I can use Exim, but on first glance this config looks quirky.  I am soliciting advice from the eminent linux wizards on this list as to the proper course of action re: MailScanner.  Obviously, this might be better posted on a MailScanner mailing list.  But, in light of the great advice I read on this list, I wanted to get the opinions of those here.
