The 7.2 installer has an "auto" option for partitioning. If left alone,
it tends to set up a swap partition, a /boot partition, and one other
one for everything else. I've done it many times when testing machines,
so  I don't understand your comment that it does not do this.

If you don't want to let it do its thing, then make a swap of around 2X
your RAM, a /boot of 25-50 megs, and (at least) a / partition of all
the other space. It is better to make a / and a /home, but then you
have to know how big to make them, and if you're only playing with it
(i.e., a "throw-away" install) you can get away with doing everything
in one partition.

Since 7.2 is now fairly old, it has accumulated MANY updates, a large
percentage of which are security updates, and quite a few bug fixes
(major bug fixes being several big updates to the printing subsystem,
which tended to not work very well, or to work for only some printers,
at initial release). I would urge you to register your system with
RHN, configure your up2date client, and update the machine. If you have
broadband connectivity it should take "only" a few hours. If not, it
could take a day, but if  you're going to use this system, and if 
it is going to be going online, you need the security updates.
