IIRC there was something about this on this very list just a few days ago.
The OP (not sure who it was) was told to alias rm to a trash directory
then. All the above information was given then too.

We constantly tell people to make backups and to make copies of their
work, not to work from the only copy of a script.

IMHO, the question should have been "my friend rm'ed the file and the
original is corrupt and the backup doesn't have it yet.... what should I
do?"... that question is worth answering.

The answer to the question he asked is to take the keyboard away from his
friend. :)
