Are you logging in using the IP address or the sys name? 
If you are trying to access remotely by just the systems name, try using its
IP instead.

Hmmm.... turn up the logging level to verbose and then check the logs after
the next barf. (Don't forget to turn loggin back later or you'll eventually
run into trouble).
