Ken,
    Thanks for the input but the advice I got from
Mike Fratoni fixed the problem. I had already done
everything you suggested to no avail. Apparently there
is a bug with the installer which does not enable all
of the required drivers for hardware devices attached
to the system. The fix was to run the "depmod -ae"
command which scans and applies / reapplies the
necessary modules to the o/s then I was able to mount
the cdrom and floppy drive. This is a known bug with
the "Enigma" o/s installer.
