As far as I can see the network card is detected fine, so my guess it's 
a network question.
Is the routing correct? Is the eth0 interface configured correctly?

check "ifconfig eth0" and "route -n". Most likely you will find a 
problem there. Or maybe there's a very strict firewall running on either 
your box or the target machine? Or maybe the cabling is faulty (like 
using cat3 cable on a 100Base-T network)

Several possibilities, but I don't think it's a kernel/driver problem.
