Memory sometimes tells on itself with either a signal 7 or 11. It can be
checked easiest with a copy of memtest86 (do a google search).

I've seen problems like this not only with HD or memory, but also with a
bad CDROM and another time with a bad FD device, so these ooopses can bew
caused by just about any bad piece of hardware. But yeah, I'de have to
agree that this looks like a hardware rather than media issue.
