You're going to have a pleasant surprise :)
Since all hardware support is built into the kernel it detects all 
hardware at boot time and support is availabe right away. If you're 
using a standard (not home-built) RedHat kernel it usually works fine 
(else you have to rebuild the kernel with support for the new hardware 
built in), no 3 million reboots, no crashes, no hangs etc etc etc :)

You mentioned your motherboard being "flaky". This might very well have 
to do with the onboard video card (if you have one). If you do, and it's 
using main memory for it's video memory *shiver* then it can cause 
crashes and sudden reboots. It's because Linux' memory manager doesn't 
cope with the fact that chunks of memory are suddenly disappearing 
because the video card takes it :) A remedy for that is to add the 
phrase mem=xxxM to the kernel boot line where XXX is the amount of 
memory you have minus 32Mb. That way linux will not use the last 32Mb of 
your memory, leaving it for the video card to use. Maybe it helps.
