kernel panic problem

hello,

I'm getting this message frequently
"insmod: can't locate module char-major... " 
what this means? what needs to be done to prevent this. After some 
time its dies due to "kernel panic". 
Again I rebooted the system and again the same problem araised.
After two reboot, the system got booted(working fine).
