Tape handling in Linux

Hi, all!

Yet another Linux newbie... having found that Linux has been able to
identify and install software for everything in my system, I thought I'd
try something exotic.  I purchased an old Digital (DEC) TZ87 tape drive
and an Adaptec AHA-2940 SCSI adapter (this is the SCSI-2 adapter with
only 50-pin connectors; not a wide or fast/wide)

RedHat found my scsi adapter and installed it.  It even sees my TZ87,
but I don't think a driver has been installed for it.  My hardware
browser says: 
Selected Device: Dec TZ87  (C)DEC
   Manufacturer: Unknown
         Driver: none or built-in
         Device: /dev/st

According to the info I've seen, this drive is identical to a Quantum
DLT2000.  My guess is Quantum went to Digital and had them made for
them.

1) Do I need a driver, and where would I get it?
2) Is it possible to read and download a tape generated by OpenVMS on
such a drive?  How?
3) Once I'm past that, I intend to use the drive for backups.  It is
certainly capable of backing up my whole system currently (the tape
holds up to 20GB, my IDE drive is only 15GB.)  I think I can figure that
out with something like vdump... but I can always use suggestions!
