Using libpcap-0.7.2 in C Program

Sir,
I am using libpcap-0.7.2 in a C program which first captures a packet and 
then reinjects it into the network. But my program is giving the following 
error

/tmp/ccSuKW14.o(.text+0x1ab):undefined reference to "pcap_lookupdev"
The same error is reported on all the libpcap functions that I have used.

probably it is a linkage error. the program is not finding libpcap. what 
should i do.
