set path question

hi,
In my RH 7.0 , created mypayh.sh in /etc/profile.d:

#!/bin/sh
PATH=$PATH:/home/mike/office52  
then did the #chmod 755 mypath.sh

Even in /home/mike/.bash_profile, added the same PATH.

when logged in as mike i do not see
/home/mike/office52 as part of mike's path. I only see
it as part of the root's path. working shell for root
and mike is "bash". why?.
