If I remember correctly, the Nvidia drivers consist of a kernel module and
a library that runs with X. You will need to ensure the kernel module is
loaded before starting up X (what does /sbin/lsmod tell you?). The library
needs to be specified in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (or something like that).

Last time I used 7.0 was with a DELL with a Quadro Pro video card so Nividia
may have changed the setup with your particular card - see the Nvidia site
for install docs.
