1. please use plain text when sending mail to newsgroups and mailing lists,
it's more "universal"

2. You don't need to reinstall. If your system installed using the LILO boot
loader, just type "single" (no quotes) at the LILO prompt. If you're using
GRUB, I'm sure there's a similar command, but LILO is the only one I've got
memorized.
