Using the Package Manager, I'v removed and then re-installed The Gimp.
Likewise, I did the same with CUPS. Currently, all available updates have
been applied:

cups-drivers-1.9-1.20020617.6
cups-1.1.15-9
cups-drivers-pnm2ppa-1.9-1.20020617.6
cups-libs-1.1.15-9

1) redhat-switch-printer selection: CUPS - OK

2) From CUPS web administration page:
Add (new) printer
Device: USB Printer #1 (Lexmark Lexmark Z53) - OK

Lexmark Z53, Foomatic+Gimp-print (en) --->
(using configuration defaults, i.e. Dither, Ghostscript, Resolution, etc):
prints test page OK.

Modify printer to use
Lexmark Z53, Foomatic+Gimp-print-ijs (en) --->
(using configuration defaults, i.e. Dither, Ghostscript, Resolution, etc):
prints test page OK.

NOTA: Keep CUPS web admin page open to monitor jobs!!!

3)Open a JPG image with ImageMagick, print to letter size - OK

System time now shows as 16:17. Cups web admin shows:

Lexmark-1 Test Page root 15k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:02:15 2002 Restart Job
Lexmark-2 Test Page root 15k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:12:00 2002 Restart Job
Lexmark-3 magicrISzin tux 4669k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:13:31 2002

All jobs print within seconds, yet consistently show a _time
stamp_ 4 hours ahead.

(Double check and Adjust Date and Time: enable NTP using
server time.nist.gov - OK) Current time: 16:25

4) Open The Gimp:
Open the _same_ JPG image as in (3) above.
Print. NOTHING comes out of the printer.
DEFAULT Printer settings in The Gimp:
Printer: Lexmark - OK
Setup:Postscript Level 2, Command: lp -s -dLexmark -oraw

Cups web admin now shows:
Lexmark-4 (stdin) tux 2871k processing since
Sat Sep 14 20:24:58 2002 Hold Job Cancel Job

Show Completed Jobs:
Lexmark-4 (stdin) tux 2871k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:25:34 2002 Restart Job

Show Active Jobs:
No Active Jobs

(5)Open Galeon. Print "all pages" - OK
Current time: 16:33
Cups web admin now shows:
Lexmark-5 (stdin) tux 2044k processing since
Sat Sep 14 20:32:41 2002 Hold Job Cancel Job

(6)Print the page that is displayed in Mozilla:
"all pages" - OK

(7)From Galeon, print "pages from 1 to 1" - OK
Current time:16:38
Cups web admin now shows:
Lexmark-6 (stdin) tux 187k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:36:18 2002

(8)From Mozilla mail print an email message:
"all pages" - OK Current time: 16:40
Cups web admin now shows:
Lexmark-8 (stdin) tux 58k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:40:34 2002 Restart Job

Print same email "page 1 of 1" - OK Current time: 16:41
Cups web admin now shows:
Lexmark-9 (stdin) tux 50k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:41:25 2002

CLOSE all browsers.

Open Mozilla from panel icon, print
(file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html)"all pages" - OK

Exit Mozilla, restart the browser.Print "page 1 of 1" - OK

Current time: 16:48. Open Cups Admin. which now shows:
Lexmark-10 (stdin) tux 780k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:46:28 2002 Restart Job
Lexmark-11 (stdin) tux 776k completed at
Sat Sep 14 20:48:02 2002 Restart Job

CLEANLY SHUTDOWN and power off machine... including
turning off power-bar, so printer also shuts down.

Restart system.

Open Mozilla, print (file:///usr/share/doc/HTML/index.html)"all pages" - OK
Current time: 17:08

Open Cups web admin which shows:
Lexmark-12 (stdin) tux 780k processing since
Sat Sep 14 21:08:05 2002 Hold Job Cancel Job

Open The Gimp, select *any* graphics file, send to print.
Current time 17:13. Wait. Do other stuff. Check email, etc. Wait.
Current time 17:15 Nothing comes out of the printer.
Cups admin says: No Active Jobs
Lexmark-13 (stdin) tux 1227k completed at
Sat Sep 14 21:13:22 2002 Restart Job

N.B. There is NO printer created in RH printer config. so
now proceed to:
New, "Lemark" local printer which *defaults to /dev/lp0.
"Rescan devices" and it still insists on /dev/lp0. Printer is
NOT connected to parallel-port but *only* via USB cable.
(leave output quality and other selections as per defaults)

Select /dev/usb/lp0, Lexmark Z53 gimp-print (*)
Print test page - OK
Edit and change to Lexmark Z53 gimp-print-ijs
Print test page - OK

Current time 17:25
Cups admin shows:

Lexmark-14 testpage.ps root 18k completed at
Sat Sep 14 21:23:49 2002 Restart Job
Lexmark-15 testpage.ps root 18k completed at
Sat Sep 14 21:25:01 2002

Ok, so the problem of the blank pages being ejected
seems to have gone away. (Flaky hardware? Some crap
from all that Korean SPAM buggered up the system?)

What still remains, though, is the incorrect time-stamps
on jobs in CUPS admin and The Gimp's refusal to print anything...
