Failed 'null' Install On Intel 2.8G, Asus P4T533 System

I attempted to install 'null' on a system I built myself this week using 
the following hardware:

Intel Pentium 4, 2.8 Ghz processor (this is the new one released earlier 
this month)
Asus P4T533 motherboard w/BIOS update version 1002. 533 Mhz FSB. Intel 
850E chipset. Onboard RAID (Promise Fasttrack) and audio.
512 Mb RIMM4200 RDRAM
Western Digital WD1200JB (120 Gb) hard drive (8 Mb cache) as the primary 
IDE master
A second WD1200JB is plugged into the primary RAID IDE.
(both drives brand new, not initialized)
CompUSA 10/100 network card. This card uses the Realtek 8139 chipset.
Asus 16x DVD drive.
ATI Radeon 9000 Pro w/128 Mb video card.

At the very first power up of this system, things seemed to go fine. I 
was kicked into the Asus BIOS to select the CPU speed. I selected '2800 
Mhz' and rebooted.

During the boot sequence the Promise Fast Track software printed a 
message stating it was scanning IDE devices, then it printed another 
message that it had initialized a device.

I was able to boot from the 'null' CD1.

At boot: prompt, I entered 'linux askmethod' because I wanted to do an 
NFS install.

There was a warning message that it couldn't find the kernel, then the 
boot: prompt reappeared.

I repeated the command again. It loaded the kernel from CD. From the 
boot messages, I could see it was having trouble detecting IDE devices, 
but I was really tired (late at night) and didn't think to write the 
messages down.

Installation proceeded smoothly. I got one message that it found a 
second uninitialized hard drive and wanted to know what to do with it. I 
clicked the button for 'do nothing'.

After selecting packages (based on a Workstation install, and then 
selecting extra packages) it started formatting /dev/hda.

A message box came up telling me there was a problem when formatting 
/dev/hda2 and that the problem was serious. Installation would be 
aborted. Click OK.

At that point, when I rebooted, I got this message:

<BIOS update data incorrect. CPUID=00000F27. PCI device listing>

And a printed PCI device listing appeared. I hadn't noticed that before.

I researched the error message and gathered this meant I needed to 
update my BIOS. Installed BIOS version 1004a.

This got rid of the BIOS update...message, however now the machine 
prints a PCI device listing and refuses to boot to the CD at all.

More research makes me believe I need to disable the Promise RAID in 
order to install 'null'. Is this correct?

Any suggestions for getting it to boot to the CD so I can install 'null'?
