What I've seen so far is a unification of the configurations.
If you use change gconf you cna get the GNOME or KDE look/feel.
Keeping the menus consistant between them is good. I'll probably try KDE 
again, now that I can find things :)

The missing part is a way to easily pick KDE, GNOME or Red Hat look.

I disagree with the new menu _layout_, and 1 app per function idea,
but the missing menu editor will solve that.
Then I can rename Mozilla back to mozilla and add the apps I want
in the menus. And I can use the GNOME/KDE/app-specfic icons too.

I really like the new mozilla icons (in mozilla 1.1 and newer). I
wich Red Hat had used them. And the OO.o icons look cleaner to me.
But as long as I have a choice...

Install RHL-8.0. Fix icon, fix menu, upgrade apps, replace 
missing/removed apps, probably a new kernel...

No different than any previous release, just a better starting point :)
