That's probably it, I haven't restarted X.  I'll check that out tonight.  I
have updated the gnome-pilot and run gpilotd-control-applet without options.
I'll repost later with results.

   Have you installed the updates and completely restarted GNOME?  If
you're still in the same session from before the upgrade you'll get the
same error.  Ditto if you have an old copy of gpilotd running.
   You'll probably need to run the applet with no parameters and configure
your Palm before setting conduits as well.
