X occasionally does that to me all by itself (on V). Not often enough to offer 
anything reportable. I have 256 Mbytes of RAM, I've seen (just, the machine 
becomes very hard to use) X run past 700 Mbytes. Yesterday, KDE went on a 
rampage.
