An essential element of a good UI design is consistency.
For an application to find a comfortable place in Windows, OS/2, KDE or GNOME
its UI has to match its environment.

One of the good points about StarOffice 5.1 is that on OS/2 it looks like an
OS/2 application.

If a UI is inconsistent it becomes hard to use, and if it's hard to use people
won't use it, no matter how good it is inside.

A good UI design is like security, for best results it _must_ be built in from
the start.

I read in the past day or two that it took Microsoft five years to get rid of
the UI mistakes in Word.
