Alt-F4 is defined by the window manager. I assert the application's 
conventions are irrelevant. It would only be hit and miss if you are 
switching window manager configurations or using unresponsive 
applications (iirc the window manager sends a "close" request to the 
app; if it's unresponsive, that doesn't work).

Feel free to disprove my statement by counterexample if you can...
