There's rarely any point in optiising for the Athlon (or i686) processors. The 
exceptions are high-usage code such as appears in parts of glibc and the 
kernel.

If you use the Gimp or perl a lot, those might be candidates too, but first 
estimate what a ten percent (or you choose the number) improvement in 
performance will gain you on something used ten percent (or you choose the 
number) of the time will buy you.
