I am also a long time KDE user.

I think I can live with just about anything, but it's good to have a
consistency. I used to be an fvwm user and when fvwm (one) is taken off
of Redhat, I have to use something else because my old .fvwmrc would
work with fvwm2.

I hope my personal kde settings would work just fine without much
tweaking when I upgraded my 7.3 to 8.0. 
I wouldn't be happy learning new desktop behavior, key bindings, etc.

I remember when I had to deal with a shortcut that means save and exit
on one app, and force kill terminal on the other. I lost some unsaved
codes. Not fun.
