GNOME-2 + Nautilus in null+last update understood smb://,
could browse different workgroups, and list machines in those
workgroups. The problem was authentication. It didn't offer
a popup for user+passwd. I tried, the horribly insecure, method
for putting it in the URL, and it didn't work either. That may be
related to using a single authentication server for the workgroup
(I forget whet it is called in samba) but it doesn't seam to work
in GNOME-1.4 either.
