I hope not...good lord car industry is doing its best to make sure that
you will never be able to use a 3rd party mechanic(let alone any normal
person) to fix your vehicle...you will HAVE to go to a
dealership...because only the dealership mechanics will know how to
translate the diagnostic codes your car's computers are reporting.  Cars
made in the last few years are increasing difficult for indpendent
mechanics to maintain becuase the manufactuers are not releases the
little black book of codes.
In 15 years if you have a engine, transmission, or brake problem the
only people who can fix it will be the dealership...and they are going
to be more interested in getting you to trade-in for a new model than
actually fixing your car.  Cars and software are becoming a better and
better analogy considering the number of major computer controlled
components now in cars.
