problems with Ensoniq 5880 on Gigabyte GA-7VRXP mobo

Hi everyone.

Just installed (null) that I downloaded about a month ago :), and it's
having problems with the built-in sound card on my Gigabyte mobo.

After I first installed, it worked fine.  I could play DVDs (Pioneer
slot-load), and after I enabled DMA mode, it even played with smooth
video.  (Under Valhalla I couldn't get the DMA mode to work on this mobo.)

However, I just rebooted, and kudzu asked me about 6 times to configure an
unknown sound card.  The first few times I hit "configure", then the last
few I hit ignore.

Now, I can't get the sound card to work at all.  I tried deleting all
AUDIO devices in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf and rerunning kudzu, but no luck.
It did find the Ensoniq each time, but also found the several "unknown"
ones, too.  No combination of configure/ignore/do nothing seemed to make
it work, so now I can't use the sound card on (null).  :-(  I'm pretty
disappointed, really, because I can't get DMA to work under Valhalla, so
was pretty stoked when it worked under (null)...

Any ideas how to get it to work, short of reinstalling (null)?  If that's
the only solution, why does anaconda configure correctly and kudzu not?
Where is the configuration information for /dev/mixer?  How do I manually
fix it up?
