I have a Gigabyte 7VRX (which from what i can tell is the same as the
7VRXP except for the Promise RAID controller & onboard LAN). I am still
running 7.3, and i can't get UDMA133 or onboard sound to work at all
with Red Hat-built kernels. I compiled 2.4.19, which recognises the
chipset as UDMA133 capable, but gives DMA errors on my hdc. (It has a
DVD-ROM as a slave, which means that it is limited to UDMA100.)

Sound doesn't work at all - i'm told the ALSA drivers fix this, but i'm
not in the habit of messing with my kernel (the 2.4.19 compile is the
first one i've done in years!), since i've found that Red Hat are a lot
better at building kernels than i am.

That happened to me with my USB controller after a reboot recently. It
hasn't been recognised since. I don't have any USB devices, so i never
bothered looking into it. It may be something else i changed.

My sound card is reported in hwconf, but when i try to configure it with
sndconfig it says:

     PCI Probe Results

A PCI sound card was found in your system. The details are:

     Model: VIA Technologies|VT8233
     AC97 Audio Controller

Then on the next screen:

     modprobe error

The following error occurred running the modprobe program:

     /lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/via82cxxx_audio.o:
init_module: No such device
     /lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/via82cxxx_audio.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/via82cxxx_audio.o failed
     /lib/modules/2.4.19/kernel/drivers/sound/via82cxxx_audio.o: insmod
sound-slot-0 failed

I don't know whether this is the same sound card as the 7VRXP (it
doesn't sound like it), but it seems we'll have to wait a little longer
for full support for these newer boards.
