Wow, 3 days on a nice system like that!  In 3 days, you could do some 
consulting, mow some lawns, sell beer, etc. and earn enough cash to buy 
a faster CPU that will outperform an optimized compile!  ;)

Reminds me of the time Homer Simpson skipped work to sell sugar...
