What's the size of your resulting bzImage? Are you compiling with a supported compiler (i.e. gcc 2.5.9{5,6} or gcc 3.2.2)? Are you trying to use ACPI/APIC? I'm having trouble on my laptop with 2.5.65-mm4 and ACPI support, so I'm using APM instead. Also, 2.5.65 is living major changes to VM subsystem, O(1) scheduler, IDE and PCMCIA/CardBus, along with ext2/ext3 codepath reduction, the Big Kernel Lock and the new block elevators (Anticipatory Scheduler and CFQ) you'll find in the -mm series, so there are still pending issues. Also, asking on the linux-kernel mailing list is a good idea and will probably throw some light on this. So, don't give up... Keep on trying.
