I don't want anything to happen to my static IP nic setup for the lan connection in the process of getting the TCP/IP over modem working. Ok, I tried what you said. It erased the other numbers I had in my wvdial.conf file. I don't know if it had any other side effects. I got (and was getting) a dynamic IP address from my ISP when wvdial connected. I could ping that IP adddress, but I could not ping the other IP address mentioned, nor could I ping my ISP by using the domain name. Here's the result of running wvdial: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Sending: ATDT4433399 --> Waiting for carrier. ATDT4433399 CONNECT 115200 --> Carrier detected. I can ping 63.246.194.110, but I can't ping 63.246.194.250; it just hangs.
