unable to recv int& float values using recv

i am getting problem in sending & receving data from linux to VxWorks
& vice-versa.If i send data of char type then the operation succeeds
but for sending data of float or integer type its not working.it gives
some junk value for the case of integer or float data type.
The connection is proper.
i am using send & recv functions for sending & retreiving the data.
I have red hat linux9.0& Vxworks 5.5
Linux 9.0 is just loaded recently.
Is it that i have to initialize or activate some files or something for this?
has anyone else faced some prob like this???
if anyone knows some solution, plz help!!!!
