Many thanks for the responces.

I am running RH3 update 8, so I hope I should be ok as for version.

My concern was really that the default installation did not install the
smp kernel. From Garrick's response, the SMP kernel appears to be
required ?

Does anyone know why the installation does not automatically install an
SMP kernel, it the OS supports dual core. Its pretty simply I think to
retrospectively install the relevant kernel, but I was surprised that it
was not installed automatically.
