Hi,

I have the following situation

OS

[sroot@mars log]# uname -a
Linux mars.leop.s3group.com 2.4.21-47.0.1.EL #1 Fri Oct 13 18:04:55 EDT
2006 i68
6 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
[sroot@mars log]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 3 (Taroon Update 8)

Problem,

While querying SCSI chain works fine.

Attempting to eject tapes from tape drives fails, ie

[sroot@mars log]# mt -f /dev/nst0 status
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=-1, block number=-1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (no translation).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (1010000):
 ONLINE IM_REP_EN
[sroot@mars log]# mt -f /dev/nst1 status
SCSI 2 tape drive:
File number=0, block number=1, partition=0.
Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (no translation).
Soft error count since last status=0
General status bits on (1010000):
 ONLINE IM_REP_EN
[sroot@mars log]# mt -f /dev/nst1 eject
/dev/nst1: Input/output error
[sroot@mars log]# mt -f /dev/nst0 eject
/dev/nst0: Input/output error

So, looking at dmesg, I see
st1: Error with sense data: Current st09:01: sense key Illegal Request
Additional sense indicates Medium removal prevented
st0: Error with sense data: Current st09:00: sense key Illegal Request
Additional sense indicates Medium removal prevented

So my question is;

Has anyone come across this before. I have so far

1. Upgraded kernel
2. Changed SCSI cables
3. Verified it's the eject operation that is failing, I can label and
write data correctly.

What I have left at this stage is to put in a temporary SCSI card and
try this. In anyone had a more informed view I would appreciate it.

-Bob
