Snertsoft Milters

I am trying to get some milters running from snertsofts site, but I'm
having trouble getting the daemons to start up. I'm getting an error
about the milter being unable to access /etc/mail/access.db.

Some rpms I have installed are:
[root@ns1 root]# rpm -qa | grep sendmail
sendmail-devel-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.6
sendmail-doc-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.6
sendmail-cf-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.6
sendmail-8.12.11-4.RHEL3.6
[root@ns1 root]# rpm -qa | grep db
db4-4.1.25-8.1
db4-devel-4.1.25-8.1

And then I've downloaded the snertsoft milters I'd like to try using.

I have milter-7bit, milter-date, milter-abook, and milter-gris. All 4
milters give me the same problem about being able to access my
access.db file.

I've set the perms on
-rw-rw----    1 root     smmsp       12288 Jun 15 10:21 access.db
and made sure the user milter was a member of the group smmsp.

When I try to service milter-date start,
[root@ns1 mail]# service milter-date start
Starting milter-date                                                   [FAILED]
and tail /var/log/maillog gives me
Dec  5 22:40:36 ns1 milter-date[8740]: failed to open "/etc/mail/access.db"

I've asked on the milter list, but I'm wondering if this is some issue
with my db. I thought I'd ask here since this is RHEL3U8.
