redhat 3, adding lvm to system

Hi,

I have the following configuration

Redhat 3 box build without LVM. 

I want to use LVM on this system, to simplify adding disk space.

What I have done so far to test this is;

Added additional disk to system

Partitioned additional disk as
Swap space
Boot
Remainder is lvm

I have then divided up the lvm space to replicate the initial
partitioning.
I have then partitioned the created logical volumes.
I have then dumped/restored the original partitioning and verified that
the restored data matches the original data.
I have then modified the fstab file to refer to the lvm partitions
rather than labels associated with the original disks
I then rebooted the box, and have a problem.

The machine boots to grub but cannot do a root pivot to the lvm
partition containing the copied root space.

I have tried installing a parallel installation using LVM and comparing
the resulting fstab and grub file. I cannot see any differences. 

Is LVM automatically loaded in the ram disk to allow the root pivot to
occur ? Or is it only included in the ram disk if LVM is used when
building the system ?
