chkconfig iptables off
service iptables stop
chkconfig ipchains off
service ipchains stop

That should take your firewall down permanently.

Are you iptables or ipchains.

All of the information is stored in /etc/sysconfig/iptables, or
/etc/sysconfig/ipchains.

You can go in there directly to remove rules.

You can also type:

iptables -F # to flush rules
iptables -X # to delete all rules

while logged on as "root" to remove the firewall temporarily.

similar commands exist with ipchains.
