You get a lot of info from /proc.....
For example to see the scsi disk .. you can "cat /proc/scsi/scsi"=20
There are a lot of gui tools for that ..you may try "webmin" for manage

On a windows server for example there is a  tool called compaque insight
manager, which monitors hardware, hard drive, memory etc.hope this makes
sense.
