tetex conflicts with coreutils

hello, newbie needs help
I have Redhat 7.3 installed and would like to get the latest version of mysql 
running
I have downloaded MySQL-server-5.1.11-0.i386.rpm to /root folder
In a shell I have run rpm -i MySQL-server-5.1.11-0.i386.rpm
The message is
Error: failed dependencies: coreutils is needed by MySQL-server-5.1.11-0.i386
MySQL-server conflicts with MySQL-server-3.23.49-3
MySQL conflicts with MySQL-3.23.49-3

I have downloaded coreutils-4.5.3-19.i386
In a shell I have run rpm -i coreutils-4.5.3-19.i386
The message is
Segmentation fault

I then ran a dependency check on coreutils-4.5.3-19.i386 in Kpackage and 
message is
tetex conflicts with coreutils-4.5.3-19.i386

I have googled but can not work out what to do to resolve this conflict

suggestions please
