Thanks.  I may try a 2.4 kernel yet.  It looks like my initial problems
were due to a bad download (so much for the GPG-based verification in
rpm 4??), but after correct that, I had other strange issues with the
megaraid.c SCSI driver.  Odd.

The reason I said I didn't want to go to 2.4 is I have a proprietary,
mission-critical, application that is officially certified only on
kernels 2.2.x, and I can't get support if I upgrade, supposedly.  I find
that argument to be pretty silly, as the program is basically a Perl web
app with Apache and MySQL -- there's nothing kernel-dependent about it. 
But I try to follow the rules...otherwise I'd be at RHL 7.3 anyway.
