identd problem

Zoot-list members,
I am running RH 6.2 on a P100 with 16mb ram on a network that's =
connected to a router that shares my cable
Internet connection. I set DMZ on for the linux pc so that shouldn't =
cause any problems.
I installed all kinds of versions of identd deamons but in the end none =
really works.
Right now I have pidentd installed (lastest version from rpmfind for RH =
6.2) and it seems to work
just fine when I do a local telnet to 113 and type something like '1093, =
113'. It reply's the correct username
in all cases that I try but when I grab a irc client and log on to a irc =
server my logs say that the irc server
requests the ident information like this: ' 42343, 6667' and my identd =
deamon reply's with some error or no user..

You may also find the "itest" program useful to verify that the
internal kernel-accessing routines in the Ident daemon is working
correctly.
Use it like this:
netstat -n | grep ESTAB | ./itest
And the output should be a list of username and the TCP connections
they own. This program must be run as root (or be setgid just like
the pidentd daemon).

When I run this program it shows the connections but instead of =
usernames who own these connections
it says *unknown*. So I figured that according to the text the internal =
kernel-accessing routines in the Ident daemon is not working correctly. =
(*Btw, when I use netstat to request connection information it does say =
who owns the connection)
I have no idea how I will have to repair this. I hope someone can help =
me out.
