KDE and Gnome on same machine

I would like to have both KDE and Gnome on the same
machine.  I am writing some GUI software and want to
test on both GUIs.

I expect that the startx script will have to be
duplicated and  modified.

I already have Gnome installed and I am familiar with
it.  I have no knowlege of KDE.

Is this possible? Can someone point me to
documentation?
