Re: Trouble with standalone tomcat4 installation

Back again

I've taken the system back to square 1, with a clean installall of ES
along with signing up to the extras and the RHAPS beta channels.
Once the ES install is complete, I run
up2date --nosig java-1.4.2-bea-devel      (tomcat4 seems to need it, but 
doesn't depend on it)
up2date --nosig mod_jk2
up2date --nosig tomcat4

The last one nicely brings in everything tomcat4 needs, however
once its complete, tomcat4 will not start.  The problem seems to be
that the rebuild-jar-repository runs with errors:

/usr/bin/rebuild-jar-repository: error: could not find jaf Java 
extension for this JVM
/usr/bin/rebuild-jar-repository: error: could not find javamail Java 
extension for this JVM
/usr/bin/rebuild-jar-repository: error: All detected jars were not found 
for this jvm
/usr/bin/rebuild-jar-repository: error: could not find commons-logging 
Java extension for this JVM
/usr/bin/rebuild-jar-repository: error: All detected jars were not found 
for this jvm

and these errors generate bad links in the /usr/share/tomcat4/common/lib
for [jaf].jar and [javamail].jar and in the 
/usr/share/tomcat4/server/lib/[commons-logging].jar

removing the bad links allows tomcat4 to start.

Why the bad links in the first place?  Are there packages that tomcat4 needs
that are not in the dependency list?
