Kernel compiles with Fedora Core 1?

Has anyone had kernel compile errors with Fedora Core 1? I am trying to
compile using the stock config file for i686. I ran make mrproper first then
copied the config file as .config from the configs dir to
/usr/src/linux-2.4. I edited the version info in Makefile. Whenever I run
make dep, I always get errors. Am I missing something here?
