start your samba on boot
# chkconfig smb on

# service smb status
smbd (pid 4277) wird ausgeführt...
nmbd (pid 4281) wird ausgeführt...



afair you have to wait about 7 minutes before your samba-server becomes 
master-browser

check your log

# tail -f /var/log/samba/nmbd.log
[2003/11/16 10:50:21, 0] nmbd/nmbd_workgroupdb.c:dump_workgroups(266)
  dump_workgroups()
   dump workgroup on subnet  192.168.101.12: netmask=  255.255.255.0:
        MYGROUP(1) current master browser = XP1800
                XP1800 40049803 (Samba Server)
